The Power of the Ocean

A powerful, largely untapped resource.

Every day, waves carry energy across our oceans and toward our shores.

For island and coastal communities, that movement represents an opportunity to explore a renewable source of electricity close to where it is needed.

Wave energy could complement existing renewable-energy systems, diversify electricity generation and contribute to greater energy resilience.

At KanduCurrent, we see the ocean not only as a defining feature of coastal life, but also as a potential part of its energy future.

  • Renewable Electricity

Explore the conversion of ocean-wave motion into usable electrical energy.

  • Energy Resilience

Investigate opportunities to diversify electricity generation in island and coastal energy systems.

  • Coastal Infrastructure

Examine how energy generation might be integrated with structures designed to protect shorelines.

The Technology

From wave motion to electricity.

Ocean waves carry energy created primarily by winds transferring energy to the sea.

Wave-energy converters are engineered to capture part of that movement and transform it into usable power.

Different technologies use different conversion methods. Some use the movement of floating structures, while others use pressure changes, water movement or air displacement to drive electricity-generating equipment.

Technology suited to the location.

No two coastlines are identical. Wave conditions, seabed characteristics, environmental considerations, coastal structures and local electricity requirements all influence technology selection.

KanduCurrent's development approach begins by understanding these conditions and identifying suitable technical solutions.

Energy + Coastal Resilience

One coastline. More possibilities.

Coastal protection is essential infrastructure for many island communities.

Breakwaters, seawalls and other coastal structures help manage wave exposure, protect harbors and safeguard valuable land and infrastructure.

But what if some of these structures could also contribute to electricity generation?

Certain wave-energy technologies can potentially be designed for integration with coastal infrastructure.

Where site conditions and engineering requirements support such integration, a single infrastructure development could serve more than one purpose.

  • Coastal Protection

Infrastructure designed to help manage wave exposure and protect coastal assets.

  • Energy Generation

Wave-energy conversion systems that may be incorporated into suitable coastal structures.

  • Infrastructure Value

The opportunity to investigate shared construction, access and maintenance arrangements, subject to feasibility.

Rethinking the value of coastal infrastructure.

The opportunity is not simply to place an energy device beside a seawall. It is to investigate whether coastal protection and energy generation can be planned together from the beginning, creating a more integrated infrastructure solution.

Technology illustrations represent potential applications. Project feasibility and performance depend on site-specific engineering and assessment.

Project Development

From ocean potential to viable projects.

Promising technology is only one part of developing renewable-energy infrastructure.

Successful projects also require suitable locations, reliable technical data, environmental assessment, commercial structures, regulatory coordination and investment.

KanduCurrent focuses on bringing these elements together.

As an ocean energy project developer, we work to identify opportunities, coordinate expertise and advance projects through the stages needed to assess their viability.

  1. 01

    Identify Opportunities

Evaluate coastal locations, wave-energy resources, electricity requirements and opportunities for integration with existing or planned infrastructure.

  2. 02

    Establish Feasibility

Coordinate resource assessment, engineering studies, environmental considerations and financial modeling.

  3. 03

    Build Partnerships

Engage technology providers, coastal engineers, utilities, research institutions, public authorities and potential investors.

  4. 04

    Structure Projects

Explore suitable commercial arrangements, electricity offtake pathways, delivery models and financing structures.

  5. 05

    Advance Development

Support promising opportunities toward demonstration, investment decisions and eventual implementation.

Technology. Engineering. Partnerships. Investment.

We believe the future of ocean energy will depend not only on technological progress, but also on the ability to develop projects that work in real coastal environments.

The Possibilities

Starting in the Maldives. Looking beyond the horizon.

The Maldives offers a compelling setting in which to explore ocean-energy development.

Its island geography, dependence on coastal infrastructure and need for reliable electricity make the relationship between ocean energy and coastal resilience particularly relevant.

KanduCurrent's initial development focus is the Maldives.

Our outlook extends to other island nations and coastal communities where suitable wave resources, infrastructure requirements and project economics may create opportunities.

  • Cleaner Energy Systems

Ocean energy as a potential contributor to diversified renewable electricity generation.

  • More Productive Infrastructure

Coastal developments that may combine protection with additional energy value.

  • Resilient Communities

Infrastructure planning that considers long-term energy and coastal needs together.

  • Replicable Opportunities

Development models that could be adapted to suitable coastal markets internationally.

The opportunity is substantial. Realizing it requires careful engineering, credible economics and the right partnerships.
